This year we are doing a bunch of Christmassy gigs for you all (check out the listings below..) so we hope you will be able to come and get festive with us! First up was a gig at the Underbelly in Hoxton on the 17th December, with our friends the wonderful Audiogold. Top night, with loads of great bands playing too. We.are.so.glad.to.be.home! We also learnt how to get a double bass onto a London bus. Very important for life.

Summer Recording!

Hey Guys,

So the long awaited recording has begun! We went to a small house in an isolated village in south west wales, and in-between surfing and beach barbecues we managed to do a spot of recording for our new ep which will hopefully be available by december. We turned the house into a home studio with a lot of snazzy equipment and got our very own mastermind engineering genius Tom Walker (formerly of the band Wake Up Tom) to record us! A lot of experimenting and heart and soul went into these songs, and we managed to get three tracks completely down and ready to fool around with when mixing them this September. We can't wait to show them to you :)

Meanwhile, this summer has been lovely, we have been playing a bit in wales (at the sloop inn where Jonny Flynn had his wedding reception this year -congrats!) and Ellie has been off to the Fringe Festival in Edinburgh to be in a couple of musicals and a blues show which are going well! Hopefully there will be some band busking action going on as well when Immie and C come up later on in the festival, will keep you posted....

STAR: St Andrews Radio

Last Saturday, (30th April), me and Ims played a gig in St Andrews for STAR - St Andrews Radio. It was broadcasting a live acoustic show of the best of St Andrews' unsigned talent, from a coffee shop in town it had turned into a radio station for the week! Immie came up to StAndy's see me and go to the Royal Wedding celebrations which were happening in St Andrews the day before (wasn't it great) and on the sat we played about 5 songs live, on the radiowaves and to an audience of people which had gathered in the shop. Awesome! Oscar Swedrup and Andrew Pearson also performed, and they were incredible. Definitely look them up!

21st March: The Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh

So, the photos just came back from the gig at the Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh on 21st March. Was such an fabulous night, with an amazing lineup of Edinburgh bands and solo artists all turning up to play to raise money for various charities. If you were there, you will agree it rocked! Thanks so much to all of you who supported us, the venue was full, with a lot of people standing up at the back and sitting on the floor! Sadly C couldn't make the trek from Birmingham, so Anoushka on cello and Zoe on voice, harmonica and percussion helped us out, and the sound was so beautiful! Thanks guys! xxx

University Life...but still going strong!

Hey peeps,

So after the 'goodbye, so long, this is the end of the road and we shall wish you well' theme of the last post, we've only gone and blaady got ourselves some more freaking gigs! ooooh yes, this here threeforagirl train is not stopping at the gap year station, i can tell you that for free. We are still going strong, writing loads and loads of new material and performing it all over the uk. hoorah hoorah.

SO, for those of you that came, and for those that missed out, here is an update of the highlights of the (academic?) year so far:

19th-20th /11/10 - Supported Audiogold at their album launch at the Rosemary Branch Theatre in Islington for two nights.

27/12/10: Gig at the Grey lady in Tunbridge Wells - with Henry Willard on double bass....absolute beauty!

19/1/11: Gig at the Forest Cafe in Edinburgh with CCJ.

12/2/11: Played at Stadium:MK (the football stadium of the MK Dons). Amazing! - with Tom and Tom on guitar and drums.

7/3/11: The Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh, with 'the tin cans' and 'M J Vincent et al.' - with another guitar, dobro player and drummer. FAB.

So, thats it so far, obviously not as crazy as the tour, but we like to think we are keeping things ticking over niiiiceeely until the summer when we will be back with a bang! Got some festival and overseas possibilities (all very hush hush o'course) in the pipeline, will update nearer to the time no problem.

So, yes. from now on this blog is going to be buzzing, you mark my words. pics, dates, you name it, its going up. One more thing, 21st March 2011, if you are in Edinburgh, keep the date free....

So long, Farewell!

Soooo the time has come for us to go our seperate ways and bop off to uni! Our last few gigs have been wonderful, alth0ugh after a long summer apart we were a bit rusty to say the least! We were lucky enough to be able to play at Local and Live, a 4 day festival in Tunbridge Wells run by Paul 'P-Diddy' Dunton, where every act was amazing AND we got free bangers and mash! YESSSS. Then it was off to 'The Wiremill' in Lingfield to a Sunday music event run by the wonderful Olly Tully who we hadn't seen in aaaaaaaaaaaages (since tour) and whose witty banter and crazy dance moves have been sorely missed. As it was our last gig for a long while we played a longer set, complete with old favourite covers.. and then chilled out by the lake with tea and pudding and game after game of grabble (scrabble but better).
This year has been INCREDIBLE and although we're definitely still going to be doing LOTS band-wise, not gigging and seeing each other as much will feel so strange! Ellie will be swanning about on the bonny hills of scotland in her orange St. Andrews robes, C will be having cups of 'char' in Brummie land, and Ims will be donning tartan in Edinburgh and och ayeing me laddie till the wee hours of the mairn. So lovely reader(s?) a fond farewell for now and we shall write more until the joyful day when we are reunited!!

We played this really lovely local festival as soon as we arrived home and had an amazing time! It was called 'Tentertainment' and was held in the town of Tenterden, Kent. Nashville, TN - 22-27th June

So, Nashville, Tennessee. The home of real country music. It is yeehaaaww and dangnabbit and hot diggedy to boot. We have been staying in ‘Music City Hostel’ which is like a bit community, full of musicians and late night sing-a-longs. We have explored downtown and broadway, especially music row, where every bar and restaurant along the strip has live country music playing all day every day! Tootsies, The Stage and Legends Corner were among the places where we watched INCREDIBLE musicians play for free! (Especially one amazing bluegrass fiddler…Immie was so transfixed watching her solos that she spilt her coke all over Ellie’s lap. Not cool.) We also had a browse around the country shops, selling cowboy boots, hats and garish shirts galore! On one of the first days a film ‘The Blind Side’ was shown in the park for free at sunset, and so a group of us went with blankets and pillows to watch it. There were popcorn and hot dog stands all around and hundreds of people turned up to watch, just like in the films! We attended an open mic night to watch our friends at the hostel play a few of their songs each. (Unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to play as you had to have signed up the week before. But it was great to hear their songs, everyone is so talented around here!). While walking around Centennial Park in the dark one night and viewing the impressive Parthenon lit up over the lake, Immie and I met our guardian angel, who goes by the name of John Michael, a young Nashville guy who plays guitar. He came to our rescue twice, once where we were lost trying to find the park, and the other when we were lost in the park, and gave us a lift home. He also said that if we ever needed a lift anywhere, to give him a call. NICEST. PERSON. EVER. As it was roasting outside on some days, we tried to find other indoor activities, for example catching the bus to see Toy Story 3 at a nearby mall. Amazing film. We cried and laughed, laughed and cried. On our last night in Nashville a group of us went bowling….it took us 2 hours to drive there, and 10 minutes to drive back…..hmmmm…Didn’t really help that it was raining buckets all the way there. Thanks for the lift Dan! That evening we all sat in the usual circle outside, playing songs and talking about life, the universe and everything. Sunday morning was spent packing, full of dread for the 22 hour Greyhound bus journey up to New York City in the evening…

Austin TX, 18th-22nd June

We awoke that morning in absolute AGONY! What a mistake it had been to relax by the lake in the night in Texas…we should have known better! For unknown to us, Texan fire ants had been eating away at us all the night long, and in the morning we paid the price. Red sores totally covered our legs and Immie’s ankles and feet had swollen so much so that she could hardly walk. But walk she did, as we went to meet Will our cousin in downtown Austin at an Irish bar for lunch. How crazy fortunate that we all just happened to be in the same city at the same time in the whole of America?! Very weird, but very cool. He showed us around 6th street, the road with all the bars and live music venues, and we showed him waterloo and whole foods and got a couple of ice creams too. Lovely. After persuading him to buy a ticket to Daniel Johnston that evening, we all went back to the hostel to meet up with the others before setting off for the show. The gig was absolutely awesome and there were 4 support bands and a stand up comedian before Daniel came on - well worth the ticket price. When Daniel finally came onto the stage, the audience went absolutely mental! He is Austin’s local treasure after all. It was his first concert showing new material for 20 years and it was fascinating to watch this genius at work. The next morning, the bite situation did not go down, and Immie stayed inside in the cool while Will and I explored some of Austin’s political history with a tour of the beautiful capitol building. In the evening we had dinner at Chili’s with John and Will and ate some brilliant burgers. That night around midnight, Immie’s feet had become so painful and walking became impossible, so we took a little trip to Austin’s ER and walked out with antibiotics and painkillers. In case you were wondering, American hospitals are a lot scarier than English ones…especially the woman dealing with the insurance! Monday was our last day in Austin, and it was spent recovering in the hostel and taking full advantage of the free pastries and cakes they had! After a lesson in Spanish guitar from a professional 'guitarista' who arrived at the hostel, we flew on Tuesday for Nashville TN, changing in Atlanta, Georgia and meeting a lot of very chatty soldiers to talk to on the plane.

San Fran to Austin, Texas 17th-18th June

After a midnight return to our lovely san fran hostel, we awoke at 4am to catch the airport shuttle bus ready to whisk us away to Austin! All was going smoothly throughout the checkout process until we realised we didn’t have our most treasured possessions…the cameras! We rang the hostel to check that there might be the slightest chance someone had found it and handed it in….and there it was, behind the desk all the way back in the hostel, while we had a flight in half an hour-not enough time to go back and get it! Luckily the man on the desk at the hostel had a solution. He called the airport shuttle bus with orders to deliver the camera to our terminal, where Ellie in a green hoodie would be waiting for it. What a star. Sure enough, both bus and camera arrived, and Ellie was halfway through thanking the driver for his kindness, when “9 DOLLARS!” was shouted in her face and a hand thrust out grumpily. We should have known…this is America after all. The journey to Austin, Texas went relatively quickly. We changed planes in Minneapolis, Minnesota, (Mighty Ducks and coach Bombay anyone…?) and then went on to Texas. Our hostel was amazing. There is no other word. Great rooms, great living rooms, tv, a LAKE! (with a pontoon you could dive off), great people, free computers, books, dvd’s, piano, guitar and a load of free bread and cakes. Absolute heaven. We were staying in an area just south of downtown Austin, which took a short while to get to by bus and only $2 for 24 hours. On our first morning, some people already staying at the hostel were going to watch a free mariachi band competition at city hall and invited us along. It was incredible! The competition was looking for the next best mariachi singer and each singer in turn went up on stage to sing with either a backing tape or a full mariachi band behind them, with strings and trumpets and guitars and everything! It was brilliant! What was even more amazing was that these singers looked so old for their age. A girl announced as 12 looked and sounded as though she was in her late 20’s! And a boy announced as 17 had a full beard and a deep resounding bass voice and could definitely have passed for being in his thirties. The brightly coloured costumes were also amazing to see. Afterwards, our group led us to experience the barmy wonderment of ‘Whole Foods’ an uber healthy hippy supermarket with all the organic coconut milk and hemp you could ever wish for. It was quite something to behold. And the ice cream man never tired of giving you free testers of each flavour! Result. From there we went to Waterloo, a huge and famous record shop in Austin that we could have spent whole days in! It supported local artists as well as giving the best recommendations for new acts. We found some amazing new music in there (Band of Horses, Sara Jaffe, Good Old War, Ratatat) and bought our tickets for the Daniel Johnston show happening on the Saturday that we all had been easily persuaded by Andrew from Memphis, to attend. Passion Pit and Tokyo Police Club also played a free show in Waterloo about an hour after we walked in, which was pretty cool. That evening we caught the bus back home and all stayed for hours talking and playing by the lake, watching the sunset.

Tahoe back to San Francisco, 13-15th June

Did we forget to mention how incredible lake tahoe is? no? well we're going to say this again. IT'S AMAZING. Our last day in Tahoe was a long one, but a beautiful one. After a long sleepy drive home from Sacramento the night before (thanks again Ollie!) we awoke rather late and headed off for breakfast at a big noisy diner with even bigger milkshakes. We sat down, our plates laden with yumminess, quickly realizing that we were the only English folks watching the England vs America world cup match.. and we all know how that one turned out! Lets just say people were very keen to tell us that it was a draw. A draw. Even though our nation is indeed a soccer one, and half the people in the diner didn't fully understand the rules.. nevertheless.. we drew. Brilliant! However our spirits brightened quickly as, after a genius idea from Ollie, we soon found ourselves on the gondola being lifted up to the top of the mountain. The view from the first stop up was breathtaking; huge snowy mountains encircling the large blue lake with its golden sandy beaches! A further lift up gave us a chance to play in the snow and cross the state line into nevada. Lovely jubbly. Arriving back at the hotel, Ollie had set the stage up for our last gig (sob).. a musical snack for all the hotel guests around the pool! The gig went well and we even managed to recruit a new band member in a little girl named Jordan who showed off her crazy skills on the egg shaker, even in the slow mellow songs. Look out for that one in the future. She's going to make it big. We sold/signed a few CDs and headed back up to the room for ice cream.. trying not to think about the fact that it was C's last night! The drive to San Francisco airport was a good one.. we made a pit stop at trusty In n' Out Burger.. THE MOST amazing burgers you will ever eat. As we ate, we questioned the fashion choices of many americans (upturned baseball caps, very short shorts, spurs, tassles, and cowboy hats oh yes) and even went to a drive in cinema to watch the new karate kid. But, inevitably, the Bay Bridge of San Fran came into view and we arrived at the airport just before 5am; sleepy and sad that another tour member was off to the homeland. Farewell to dear Cecilia was a bit too much for Ollie who as soon as we turned the corner burst into tears, tore his shirt and yelled 'why?! why?!' as Ellie and Immie looked on in embarassment...
The days we spent in san fran were brill to the max.. apart from the first afternoon where we all fell asleep in a park near the bay bridge in the morning sunshine after having an hours sleep the night before and got extremely burnt! Immie was burnt strangely only on one cheek which was really funny. The next couple of days were spent moseying around San Francisco. After going to a comedy night in a nearby bar, and having a cheeky slice of cheesecake at our favourite San Fran diner, "Loui's", we said goodbye to Ollie on the Monday evening, which was a sad time. He gave us some AMAZING essentials for our future travels (a starbucks card, macadamian nuts, m&m's and two trashy magazines- thanks!) and after many hugs he drove off to the airport. San Francisco was very relaxed and on the Tuesday we moseyed around everywhere we hadn't been before, such as the symphony hall and city hall and went to a lot of vintage shops in Haight Ashbury, and looked at all the piers by the sea. We love this city!

Lake Tahoe and Sacramento - 10/11/12th June

Fact: Lake Tahoe is the most beautiful place we have ever seen. Another fact: it is a VERY GOOD idea to climb up a massive cliff to watch the sunset with steak sandwiches. We drove up to Lake Tahoe in the middle of the night after the San Fran gig (that’s right, Ollie is an absolute saint) to get to our lovely room at the Forest Suites hotel. We had a day off the next day to explore, and maaan were we awestruck by the beauty of the place. It is fantastic! We saw an overview of the whole giant lake, powerful giant waterfalls and still, peaceful clearings with calm lakes and floating ducks. The mountains still had snow on the tips even though down at the base we were able to relax on sunny beaches. That evening we did the sunset walk up to cave rock, and saw a brilliant red and gold sunset over the dark lake. It was breathtaking. (Look at us getting all mushy about this..) The next day was the day of our gig in Sacramento at the ‘BeatNik Studios’ a fantastic art gallery, photography studio and music venue all in one, run by extremely talented young artists. It was one of the best gigs from the whole tour and the other artists who played were amazing and really genuine and lovely people. Possibly the best live music we have heard in a long time! We also got to brush up on our California slang (Hella, you feel me? Word.) The drive back to Lake Tahoe in the wee hours of the morning was sleeeeepy and as soon as we got to the hotel we conked out.

LA and then back up to San Fran... 8/9th June

After a lovely long journey down to the land of 90210, the Hills, the O.C and Laguna Beach (we definitely saw Heidi and Spencer’s house somewhere among the posh digs) we arrived in Long Beach, LA (baby), blaring out some Gangster Beats from the ‘yummy mummy’ maroon saloon tour bus in true Hollywood style. Aiiight. Where my homies at. We pulled up at ‘Di Piazzas’, our next venue, only to find that they had messed up the dates and had us down for the next evening. What was our replacement I hear you cry? A classy, elegant, tasteful…comedy strip show. So…what to do with a free evening in LA? SUSHI of course! We realised quite suddenly that it was Jono’s last evening with us (very sad) and so we had a meaningful last supper with buckets of the fishy stuff (and some sort of worm stew that almost wriggled in the bucket). The next morning we said our goodbyes with sleepy hugs in the motel, and Ollie drove Jono to the airport. When he came back, we were ready to roll on the mammoth drive ahead of us, all the way back to San Francisco. After quickly refuelling with pastries larger than our heads from an excellent Mexican Bakery, (Immie had two) we set off on the freeway, only to find that it was closed! 2 hours later we were still in LA and beginning to panic just a little…but managed to still make time to visit Venice beach, taking a lot of pictures by the lifeguard hut pretending we were Marissa Cooper from the O.C when she goes up there to have a little cry in almost every episode. We then entered the most boring road in the whole of the world. It was straight for about 300 miles! We could see Ollie’s eye twitching as he slowly turned insane, and Immie’s repetitive rehearsing of ‘What Can I Do’ by the Corrs on the mandolin didn’t help matters. After 9 hours, 2 twilight CD’s (Ollie forced us to put them on) and a Carl Jr’s burger, we arrived in the Union Room at San Francisco, to go straight onstage. The gig was good and we met the ‘Bay City Luv’ boys, a vocal harmony group who came to watch our show after jamming on a street corner.

Monterey & Grover Beach - 6/7th June

Monterey was our next stop, a hop and a skip from Carmel. We were lucky enough to arrive on the day of a 'fun day' in the town's famous 'Cannery Row' - a phrase coined by John Steinbeck, with balloons, face painting, live music and an ice cream eating competition. Sadly C refused to enter, even though we knew she was the strongest member of our team after witnessing her at breakfast every day! Sadly it was a parent-child affair, however strangely enough the winning 'child' was uncannily tall with a very deep voice and signs of stubble.We scaled the beachy rocks and generally soaked up the party atmosphere, before Ollie showed us the luxurious accommodation he had managed to snag for us on the cheap. This lodge was beautiful, with a hot tub and complimentary breakfast served by a cordon bleu chef! A lovely inn, run by two lovely (if a little nuts) people. The gig in the evening at 'Captain Bullwackers' was in the garden next to a roaring fire. We managed to persuade our fellow inn-mates (see what i did there?) to come along and it was a lovely surprise when some people who saw us in Big Sur came for another listen! The drive down the Pacific Coast Highway from Monterey to San Luis Obispo was long but with amazing sights! The road stayed right on the edge of the cliffs the whole way, twisting and turning with the coast line. A highlight was when we got out of the car to see a whole beach full of elephant seals! Absolutely amazing. We checked into a sea front hotel on Pismo beach, before heading out to Grover Beach for a gig at Mongo's, a rough biker bar full of neon signs and slumping drunks. It was a funny experience, and we all ditched our usually mellow sets in favour of some upbeat crowdpleasers that they could slur along to. After exploring Pismo beach the next morning (and pretending we were all Marisa Cooper in the OC) we hit the road to L.A!

Big Sur-4/5th June

A 3 hour drive South down the California coastline took us to Big Sur, a must sea for C lovers (guess who thought up that ol’ chestnut…). We stopped the car a fair few times to get some snaps of the beautiful coastline and eventually pulled up at the Big Sur River Inn. After a swift sound check we went straight into a 2 hour set, alternating with the amazing ‘J-man’ Harrison. This inn was seriously nice, with a river at the bottom of the garden that had chairs in so you could sit in it and eat lunch! Genius idea. So, it got to about midnight and we still had not found a place to stay…. Ho hum what does one do when one is right on the coast surrounded by natural beauty…ummmm… CAMPING! We pitched up tents right on top of a dangerous crumbling life-threatening cliff in the dark with one phone torch. Things got a bit hairy when Ollie realised that one more step back wouldn’t have been a step…. Once the tents were pitched and the fire was roaring, we realised we were pretty lucky to see all those millions of stars. Especially that saucepan thingy. In the morning we awoke cooking in our tent oven, but a step outside gave us the most incredible view! A little wander to the waterfalls before breakfast made us realise we really were in the most beautiful place. The town of Carmel was nearby so we went for a little look see, before ending up passed out on the beach soaking up the rays for the rest of the day before watching the sunset.

Haight Ashbury and Sausalito - 3rd June

Our second day in San Francisco was a bit more bohemian. We wandered around the district of Haight Ashbury, the motherland of hippies, activists and people who just like holding signs up. This tattoo covered place is located oddly enough at the intersect of Haight St. and Ashbury St. would you believe it. We wandered around getting to know our inner peace and love and visited golden gate park, totally covered with small groups of nature (alcohol and other natural substances) lovers and their dogs. Our inner peace and love somehow took hold of our senses, possibly through the power of incense, and we floated into the tattoo and piercing parlour. After leafing through books of dodgy designs, Ellie and C’s spontaneity wavered. Immie got a nose ring. The massive record store a couple of shops down was a sight to behold. Ridiculously large and filled with every CD you could imagine… AWESOME.
Sausalito (a quick hop and a skip over the Golden Gate Bridge) beckoned to us in the evening, as we were booked to play in a swanky wine bar. This was a favourite destination for the yacht, supercar and money tree owners among us. Good thing we are all over 21 because we got a free bottle of champagne after the show. Nice one. Jono kept the WAGS happy by busting out some funky covers at the end of the night for them to show off their salsa moves and their yoga booties. Overall some classy digs with pukka booze.

San Francisco - 2nd June

The journey to San Francisco was long and tiring but we made it after 3 flights, 2 cups of tea, and a good healthy dose of Ashton Kutcher in Valentines Day. The city is so beautiful, bright, and extremely hilly....We drove down the twistiest road in the world and stopped off in Fisherman's Wharf for an 'in 'n' out burger' which went in very quickly before we went out (see what i did there?) to the apartment. This apartment in san fran was pretty much the lap of luxury, enhanced by the fact that the previous tenants had left cereal, milk and tea in the cupboards. Cheers guys! The next day was for exploring. We found ourselves dropped off near Chinatown gate and armed with a map, cameras and rumbling tummies, we expertly navigated our way through the jungle of gold waving kitties and floating red lanterns to the ambrosia known as ‘Mama’s’. This haven of deliciousness (as recommended by cousin Will) left us almost giddy with delight and we demolished trays and trays of bacon, eggs, toast and pancakes in a growing frenzy. Words cannot describe this feeling of euphoria. Oh Mama we love you.
We then decided to see all of the city and walk up the millions of stairs to Coit Tower. (Warning: DO NOT attempt after a Mama’s. DO NOT attempt if you have asthma. DO NOT attempt if you don’t have asthma, because you WILL develop asthma. DO NOT walk, if you can, DRIVE.)
Apart from our lungs shrinking and the hysteria from the lack of oxygen, we arrived, giggling (crying) at the tower. The sign for the lift up to the top was a shining beacon of hope for the weary. We were amazing at the panoramic views of the entire city, quickly realising we knew none of the names of anything. (‘Is that the golden gate bridge…? Nope. That? Still no…..I like that funny pyramid building, let’s take a picture…Is that Alcatr…OOH the SEAAAA!’) We then continued our tour with a lovely stroll through the entire city, up and down the hills, taking in the sights and realising that strangely San Francisco looked remarkably like Australia, England, Lisbon, Madrid, Rome, Uzbekistan, etc….
It was great to play in the evening at the Union Room, such a well known venue in the city and we couldn’t believe some of the amazing blues artists that were playing in the same week as us. Tinsley Ellis, Coco Montoya, John Lee Hooker and Janiva Magness all made an appearance onto the bill for this month alone! The gig went well and Jono was phenomenal, his set beautiful and flawless.

Last Vermont gig at Nectars - 31st May

Hello, here are just a couple of pics and a vid from Nectars, the last gig we played on the East Coast, in the beautiful town of Burlington. We opened for a band called 'The Contributers' who are AMAZING and we were very priveliged to share a stage with them! Immie even got to go up and rock out on the tambourine for one of their songs...very cool. After the gig we drove through the night straight to Boston Airport for a 7:30am flight to Washington DC. Then we changed planes to Chicago and then again for our 3rd flight to San Francisco. maaaan that was a long day! We also discovered the deliciousness of gravy fries...a concept we were dubious about in the beginning, but it was gooood. Big thanks to josh glass for both the fries and the pics! Enjoy!

Last few days in Vermont - 29/30th May

We have had a great time in Vermont, everyone has been super friendly. Even our Sat Nav talks to us and tells us to 'buckle up' and 'have a great day now'. Admittedly we did have a sneaky trip to the cinema on a rainy day to watch Sex and the City 2 (hilarious!) but otherwise it has been all systems go music wise and we have played two more gigs since our last blog. The first in an Irish themed Inn called the Long Trail Inn in Killington, VT and 'Pizza Jerks' in Lake George, NY. Both were so much fun and we met some really nice people!

More piccys to come, but in the meantime, have a goosy gander at our second East Coast video...

Hello from Vermont!

The 'green mountain state' is VERY green. too green to handle some might say...and the trees are HUGE and all around! We have played 3 gigs so far, one in Newport, Rhode Island, one in Burlington VT, and one in Stowe last night. All have been pretty good, fave venue so far is in Burlington at Parima's. Amaaazing Thai food! We are living in an apartment in Killington for these 5 days on the east coast (for the first gig we stayed in a motel in Rhode Island...rock and roll...and waffles). We would love to say that we have been traipsing up and down these hills, but the truth is we get back each night at about 3am, so the mornings are very sleepy with cups of tea and oreos to keep us happy!

We are now getting ready for the gig tonight in Killington tonight, at the Long Trail Inn, an Irish Bar and off to Lake George tomorrow!

Goodbye Boston - 26th May

Boston Video...

We have left Boston now (very sadly) and have started 'on the road' as they say. It was a very fond farewell to Bonnie and Bob, two very generous and lovely people! In Boston we did a duck tour of the city which was hilarious! Possibly the only time we will ever get to quack at randomers on the street from a colourful boat on wheels called North End Norma. The driver (Dr Duck) was on very good form with his jokes and history and we are all clued up on that revolution thing (america=good, england=bad). We visited lots of cool sights such as the library and copley square and ate like complete KINGS thanks to our lovely hosts! Also we managed to squeeze in a slot at an open mic... realizing that some budding musicians are absolutely bonkers. Boston we love you

Boston- 22/23/24th May

So we have finally met up with C and now moved on to Boston!
The city here is beautiful and so different to New York, you only have to go a little way to feel as though you are in the countryside again. We are staying in a CASTLE with a brilliant American couple called Bonnie and Bob Wax who are the nicest people you will ever meet. Yesterday we had a band practice in the park opposite the house and then participated in a 'walk for music' around Boston with Bonnie's choral group and lots of other people from orchestras and opera societies and things in Boston. It was a huge affair with marching bands and performers and balloons and everything and the community spirit was so infectious we found ourselves singing along to all the patriotic songs of theirs...'from sea to shinniiiiing sea....' and giving about a million high fives all over the place.
Afterwards we went to a concert in a small coffee house place called Passim's, which is a really famous small venue for great acts. People such as Bob Dylan have played there and I noticed a couple of Chris Smither posters, Foo Fighters etc. We saw Eliza Gilkyson play a 2 hour set in a really intimate setting. She was INCREDIBLE and really inspiring, we chatted with her at dinner after the show and are still buzzing. We also found out that Eliza's dad wrote the 'bare necessities' song from the jungle book! How cool is that?!
We had pizza and ice cream and then walked around Harvard University for a bit and all around Harvard Square. Brainy. Today we are looking to do a duck tour to explore more of the city and then on Tuesday we are going to the open mic at Passim's. Can't wait.

AT LAST the sun has come out. It is beautiful here and hot! We have been sightseeing addicts, hitting up all the major tings which has been wicked. Empire state building, statue of liberty, madison sq. gardens, times square, world trade center etc etc if its cool and in new york then we have seen it! Passed an amazing blues harmony group by the staten island ferry, with a guy on double bass accompanying. Just a group of old guys harmonising in the sun. very cool. Off to central park to play our instruments now and do a bit of busking, and then to catch a show at the comedy club this evening in times square. Not too shabby....

New York City - 19th May

Greetings from Broadway!

Immie and Ellie here, now on day 2 of the New York adventure, and have just had a MASSIVE pancake breakfast with bacon and maple syrup yummy and now are heading off to times square for some mega sightseeing.

Yesterday it rained BUCKETS all day long and we got completely soaked! (and lost for ages in central park, stumbling into some random castle for shelter). However, that did not stop our intrepid exploring of the big apple. We managed to visit the guggenheim, the met and the natural history museum: AMAZING! We got a bit too excited about seeing the t-rex and learned FACTS about life. did you know birds are dinosaurs?...fascinating innit...

Today we are planning on seeing carnegie hall, the rockerfeller centre, times square and the new york library as well as hitting an open mic night later on. ah sweet music.

A Tanglewood Union series TME AV mandolin. Pretty isn't it? She is called Pepper and she now plays with us on stage.
Not only does she look awesome but she makes us sound proper country now it's very cool :)

Getting Ready for the Tour....

So, we thought we would set up this fancy blog to keep an update of how our tour in America will go (hopefully swimmingly) and to keep a record of all future band antics. We really should have thought of this sooner, so much happens in threeforagirl land that it is really good to keep track! This also gives us an incentive to use my (Ellie's) new hot pink camera (extremely snazzy) at every opportunity so expect to be overloaded with tour photos.

First off, here is a copy of the poster:

We are touring with Jono Harrison, a brilliant guitarist and singer-songwriter. Think the voice of Chris Martin, the skills of John Martyn and the emotion of Damien Rice. Ooh it's just lovely.

The tour starts on the 26th May (full schedule on the website) and ends on the 10th June. Beforehand though on the 17th, (TOMORROW!) Immie and I will be hitting the big apple! watch out NYC.... C then joins us on the 21st, when we go to Boston to see more sights! Think geeky tourists on an open topped bus...

(Laura here is cracking many 'tea' jokes which I REFUSE to include in this serious post.)

Next entry will be made on the other side of the Atlantic....
